Program


The science program takes place on Monday and Tuesday. The science program includes oral and poster sessions.The oral sessions are: Paleoceanography I, II, II; Glaciology I, II; Atmosphere–Ocean–Ice Modelling; Surface and subsurface environments; and Paleoclimate – “Changes in Arctic Hydroclimate”

Sunday Evening Icebreaker Reception

We will host an informal pre-Workshop Icebreaker Reception from 17:30-19:30 on Sunday 10 May. There will be light food and beverages. You can check in or register too. The location is the University of Bergen, Natural Science Building ‘Realfagbygget’, Allégaten 41, Department of Earth Science, 3rd floor.

Monday Check In & Registration

Sunday evening or Monday morning

Check in or register during the Reception on Sunday evening or before the start of the conference on Monday morning. Upon check in, you will receive a packet of materials. Check in and registration also possible throughout Monday and Tuesday.


Monday Student Party

Meet your peers

An informal social event with food and beverages for all students will be provided from 19:00 on Monday evening 11 May. The location is the University of Bergen, Natural Science Building ‘Realfagbygget’, Allégaten 41, Department of Earth Science, 3rd floor.


Monday morning – Tuesday afternoon: Science program

Oral sessions and poster sessions will be held. There are no parallel sessions. The sessions will start on Monday morning and finish late afternoon on Tuesday (Exact time will be posted after the abstract deadline). The science sessions will be held at the University of Bergen, Law Building (“Dragefjellet”), Auditorium 2, Magnus Lagabøtes plass 1. See the Travel Info and the Program Summary and Details PDF-file for a map.


Tuesday evening: Banquet (optional extra)

A workshop banquet dinner will be arranged for all participants who choose this option. The dinner will be held at 19:00 at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, located amongst the centuries-old wooden buildings of Bryggen, the historical harbor in the center of Bergen.


Wednesday all-day: Excursion (optional extra)

A field excursion to Hardangerfjord near Bergen will be arranged for those who have chosen the option. The group will depart from Bergen in the morning (9:00 am) and return in the evening (approximately 18:00). The trip will involve transportation by bus and ferry, and participants will see beautiful Hardangerfjord – one Norway’s larger fjords – including a trip to Følgefonna, the southernmost glacier in Norway. The trip will go through the village of Jondal and further up to the glacier using snow shoes, conditions permitting. Please wear hiking shoes and weatherproof clothing.

The trip is organized by Prof. Jostein Bakke (University of Bergen), who will present the following insights:

  • Intro to fjord landscape
  • Deglaciation and Younger Dryas
  • Climate history of Western Norway
  • Lake studies around the Folgefonna Glacier
